To share the general information about the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC), and to update the information of upcoming Bhutanese American National Tournament and also to respond to the recent Facebook posting by an individual about the organization, the BASC has released a Press Release for all. It has said the recent Facebook posting by an individual about the organization might have created confusion and misunderstanding in the community. BASC has an opportunity to learn a such great number of well-wishers, athletes, players, sports lovers and supporters are inspiring, supporting and strengthening the Sports Council to move forward with pride.

According to the Press Release, the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC) is a non-profit organization, and had never worked for any profits. To promote our Bhutanese American athletes to the national and international level with selfless services and charitable, educational, and scientific purposes are the main goals of the organization.

While talking about the Annual Interstate Tournaments and their financial transparency of the event, it is crystal clear that BASC doesn’t take any amount of money, while it makes sure the host state organizers are responsible for it. Host state organizers strictly follow BASC guidelines in finances. Since beginning, BASC helps to register participating state team(s) and collect entry fees, which later, are all handover to the host state organizers so they determine the allotment of expense and awards. Starting 2016, BASC initiated to handle security deposit, that were generally returned to the teams after deducting their charges on number of cards recorded by the referees during the tournament. In addition to the collected team entry fees, BASC in certain occasion supported host organizers with some donations in its initiatives. BASC is confident in its role, has never ever taken any money from the tournament host until present. All donations and supports are provided directly to the state organizer not to the BASC.

In the Press Release, it has stated that the main aim of the Sports Council (BASC) is to create a common platform to the young athletes of Bhutanese-American community through sports events and appreciate each other’s skills and talents.

For all interstate tournaments so far, members of the Board have been providing their expertise, ideas, technical supports as volunteers, and work their best to create sports environment within the framework of BASC and USSF rules and regulations. BASC in its capacity, is committed to better its services each year, however, there are tremendous challenges ahead of us. They have said, at BASC, they are still dedicated with our commitment for positive youth development and our accountability toward the Bhutanese-American community.

BASC, in its recent Board meeting decided to host 9thBASC Bhutanese-American National Tournaments at Atlanta, Georgia on July 5, 6, & 7, 2019, on its complete involvement to bring necessary changes in our organizing.

BASC board members traveled from different states (California, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Minnesota, etc.) with their own expense like many of the soccer players, team coaches, and team managers. BASC respects everyone for their commitment. In its long course of time, BASC had experienced it, and we know how difficult it is, but we believe, all stakeholders are invested for the youth and soccer development out of their passion. That’s a positive indicator.

Through the Press Release the BASC wants to let all know that the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC) has not received any donations or grants from government or any associate organizations. The major source of BASC fund is generated from its annual membership fee ($125) that helps cover legal service fees and other basic services for organization. BASC awards “Lifetime Achievement Award” to the veteran soccer player every year with individual contributions from its Board members.

Additionally, the BASC has committed 10, 000, 000 (NRS) financial support (within the period of four years) to the Bhutanese Refugee students in pursuing their higher secondary education in Nepal, in coordination with BREP CARITAS, Nepal. BASC is successful in its commitment for the second year of this project through the generous contributions of BASC Board members. BASC having giving donations to the community organizations for their programs, also through contributions of the BASC Board members.

The BASC firmly believe in what they are engaged with and recognized their areas for improvement. BASC will definitely work on nuts and bolts to make it more effective in delivering its services to the youth/adults and their future events. The successive BASC programs are understood as love and support from many well-wishers and we shall continue further with our commitment. BASC welcomes any Bhutanese members to join its team and help achieving its goals together.
