7th BASC Interstate Bhutanese Soccer, Minnesota: Tournament of the heart not just Feet

Now, one of the greatest season happening in Minnesota for resettled Bhutanese soccer lovers since 7th BASC Interstate Bhutanese Soccer Tournament 2017, the football’s most prestigious cup competition among huge array of Bhutanese domestic leagues and tournament has begun from yesterday (July 01 2016) here in Minnesota, USA. Senator from the host state Mr. Foung Hawj inaugurated the event. In his inaugurating speech, he welcomed all the guest and players coming from different states and wish for warm friendship, development of sports and also said that he will keep on landing his helping hand to the Bhutanese community here in Minnesota.

Sia Her, executive director of “Council on Asian Pacific” and social leader Dr. Chabi Sharma where also there in inauguration session sharing their warm wishing and great support to make this grand event successful. Twenty-four teams representing different states has participated the tournament. Mr. Tilak Pokwal,  BASC board member and program director of Bhutanese Community Organization of Minnesota said – “Bhutanese American Sports Council organizes this tournament with the partnership of local host state community. For the season, we the Bhutanese Community Organization of Minnesota is working as local host organizer. We look all-round management to make this event grand success. This event will go still 3rd of July.”

According to their official website, history of this cup goes back to June 2011. However, Bhutanese American Sports Council, with 501c status was formed later only on 21st day of February 2015 with an objective of better management and exploring the sportsmanship of resettled Bhutanese youth to the top. Mr. Santa Lama is the present elected president of this organization said in our conversation – “BASC Interstate Bhutanese Soccer Tournament is of the heart not just Feet. We come together every year promoting our youth’s sportsmanship, helping to build our community strong through youth’s creativity. We manage this tournament with true cooperation, friendship, We work and we play with our heart not just with feet.”
